San Andreas Pope Street Class I Facility and Safe Routes Gap Fill Plan

Calaveras Council of Governments (CCOG)

Green DOT collaborated with the Calaveras Council of Governments (CCOG), Calaveras County, and Caltrans to develop the San Andreas Pope Street and Safe Routes to School Gap Fill Plan, a comprehensive transportation planning initiative designed to create safe bicycle and pedestrian connections between the community's residential core and essential destinations including San Andreas Elementary School, the hospital, government center, and social services. The planning process incorporated extensive stakeholder engagement through community meetings and walking audits, integrating local feedback with rural-appropriate design concepts and detailed topographic analysis to produce a feasible and fundable safety improvement project. This thorough planning approach proved successful when Calaveras County secured nearly $10 million in Cycle 6 Active Transportation Program (ATP) funding to construct the proposed improvements, demonstrating how strategic collaborative planning can effectively advance from concept to implementation while enhancing mobility and safety for students, residents, and visitors in the San Andreas region.
