The City of Point Arena, located on State Route 1 on the California Coast, received a 2010 State Safe Routes to School grant award to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle circulation around the city’s five (5) school campuses. Since this is a very small rural town with minimal qualified staff for this complex project, the city hired Jeff Schwein to serve as the project manager throughout the project duration. This effort was done to ensure successful delivery of the project. Project tasks include bid processes for environmental, design, and construction services, encroachment permits, agency coordination, community outreach, presentations, contract administration, invoicing, progress reports, and overall project management. All work is performed in accordance with the Local Assistance Procedures and with coordination with Caltrans. The project was successfully opened to the public on schedule, two weeks prior to the 2013/14 school year began.
